AusAID: International Climate Change Adaptation Initiative Consultation Workshop

Title: International Climate Change Adaptation Initiative (ICCAI) Consultation Workshop
Client Type National Government – Australia NGO – AusAID
Our Role Workshop design and facilitation, Technical expert

The Challenge

As part of Australian Government support for Pacific action in climate change adaptation, the Department of Climate Change and Energy Efficiency (DCCEE), together with AusAID, needed a team of experience facilitators with appropriate technical knowledge.

The two organisations (working with partners) wanted to gain a clear understanding of stakeholder priorities to inform the design of the next phase of climate and ocean program activities in the Pacific.

AF were contracted to design and facilitate a five-day consultation workshop with Pacific island countries. Held in Port Vila, Vanuatu from 11-15 April 2011, over 60 people attended the workshop from across the Pacific, with representatives from AusAID, DCCEE and Australian scientific organisations (Bureau of Meteorology, Geoscience Australia, and CSIRO).

The AF team (Robert, Ania and Caro) carefully designed and ran the workshop to be culturally sensitive, and to optimise participant feedback, while ensuring a genuine two-way dialogue.
