|Title:||Second Edition. Training Materials on V&A Assessment|
|Client Type||International Organisation – UNFCCC Secretariat|
|Our Role||Adaptation technical expert|
To respond to the mandates provided through UNFCCC processes the Consultative Group of Experts (CGE) sought to update of CGE training materials on vulnerability and adaptation (V&A) assessments developed in 2004-2005. The UNFCCC Secretariat sought the services of Dr Robert Kay to design and draft these updated training materials – subsequently published and made available through the UNFCCC website. This was a considerable task, requiring knowledge and expertise of a diverse set of adaptation challenges in different sectors. The work required analysis of National Communications submitted to the UNFCCC with respect to the methods and tools used for V&A, extensive literature review and analysis of all sectoral and cross-cutting techniques for V&A applicable in developing countries.
The materials provided a synopsis of key methods being used by non-Annex I Parties to the UNFCCC to assess V&A to climate change. They emphasized methods that are readily accessible, applicable and/or have been used in the preparation of national communications to date. The Training Materials were designed to be accompanied by a series of PowerPoint presentations, which aimed to assist non-Annex I Parties in using the materials as a training resource.
As a complementary exercise, the design and facilitation of a Hands-on Training session, Nairobi, Kenya was also undertaken.
